Tambayan.ph ver.3

Posted on the July 9th, 2007 under Site News by Ryman

Welcome to Tambayan.ph and again, we’ve upgraded to a new layout. It’s almost (only a few days from now) one year since Tambayan.ph was launched into the world wide web. And since then we’ve changed, updated, and tested different versions of the site.

On our first version, we used a CMS called PHP-Fusion. At first, I was searching around the net looking for a good CMS. Then I came across this website (local) and they we’re using PHP-Fusion. I registered at their site and looked around. The interface was good and so was the plugins and skins, so I tried it out on Tambayan.ph. Initially the whole site was moving forward, there were some who registered and supported the site. But the site didn’t stayed for long. One day as I was browsing around the website of my host provider, I found their TOS (Terms of Service), which to my mistake, didn’t read when I first sign-up to their hosting. It seems, for reasons unknown to me, that PHP-Fusion was not allowed to be installed to their servers. I was dis-heartened, but I have no choice but to remove the CMS from Tambayan.ph.

To allow a smooth transition, I have to find another CMS that was in-par with my previous one. So I searched again but this time I was looking for one of the popular CMS. One of the admin’s here at Tambayan.ph suggested that we use either e107 or Joomla. I checked both their website, and decided to use e107 for the version 2 of the site. The site was great with so many features, plugins, and skins. Although it didn’t also lasted long.

While surfing the web, which I regularly do at work and at home. I found out that users/viewers/guests or whatever you may call them, are most actives on blogs and/or forum sites. I was thinking, while CMS also have a sort of blog (news.php) and a forum it wasn’t that popular on most users. Example, users who generally like forums, are most active on forum sites. They don’t care on the other parts of the site, just the forums portion of the site. Wordpress and phpBB are both popular in their respected formats. Wordpress is a popular blogging software, while phpBB is a popular forums/discussion board program.

Right now you are viewing the blog/news part of our site using Wordpress. You can comment on the news/blog posts without registering to the site. Or if you want something to add feel free to drop us a comment. And for those who like to join our discussion forums. You can go to http://forums.tambayan.ph and just register there to post. It is powered by the new phpBB3.
