Google phone mobile OS plans will be announced today

Posted on the November 5th, 2007 under Events, Mobile by Ryman

Remember the gPhone (Google Phone) that was rumored last August? Apparently the said Google Phone is not (or maybe is) actually a phone, but a mobile OS that will run on various cell phone brands/products. The Google OS will be based on the open-source OS Linux. Linux on the other hand is the third OS used in the mobile market, being Symbian the first and Windows Mobile the second. But Google aims to put Linux forward with it’s “gPhone” that will be used on new models of cell phones.

The said Google phone will also be ad supported so consumers can get it for free. Everything is open-sourced so the project may also include Firefox as a browser and other popular open-source applications. The name of the project (or phone, or OS, or both) is said to be Android. The official announcement will be later today, whether it is a phone, an OS, or a bunch of open-source applications.
