Video games speed runs

A video game can be played in different ways in today’s gameplay system. On the earlier years of video games, they are always linear, going from point A to point B. It’s that simple. By playing a game over and over again, one can master the moves, locations, and difficulties provided by the game itself. One such achievement in overcoming this difficulty are speed runs.

Speed runs are record breaking playing time of a video game. Remember Super Mario? You can actually finish it in 5 minutes. That is of course if you are in a speed run. Not collecting any items, just passing through every level quickly and defeating the final boss. But if you are one of the average players like us, chances are you aren’t going to believe what I say until you see it yourself.

That is where Speed Demos Archive comes in. It is a website that contains video clips of speed runs done by games to beat the fastest possible time out of a video game. The site offers the videos from low to high quality download, then you can play it locally in your media player (most videos requires DivX codec). Also, they have rules on which speed runs are accepted in their archive, so no cheating and emulators.

These are some of the games included in the archive. Searched all consoles and arranged by time finished.

I still can’t believe Diablo was done in 6 minutes and 7 seconds. Better not blink while watching or you might miss the speed run.
