Save the Developers, upgrade your browser

Posted on the April 2nd, 2008 under Websites by Ryman

It happens to most web developers. When you code a website you check it on both IE and Firefox just to make sure that the layout and the pages doesn’t contain any errors. When everything seems fine, you then upload your work to the Internet. Feeling satisfied that the website (page) you created will be seen by millions of web surfers and confident that it will show up on their desktop the way you intended it to be. After a couple of hours you receive an IM from your friend, and he said that there is something wrong with your site. Something is not functioning or the alignment is off. You then open your browser, load your site, but when you check on it everything is fine. This scenario sometimes happens to me when I code a site. And the most likely reason: the users on the other end are using an outdated browser.

This is really frustrating to web developers since they have to code the websites they are doing precisely on each browser and each version that differs from the new one. Often it is the difference between Internet Explorer 6.0 and 7.0. To combat this dilemma, SaveTheDevelopers.org was created. Their mission is to eliminate old browsers, and specially kill off IE 6.0 quickly.

As you can see this (Tambayan.ph) website is checked against Firefox and IE 7.0, if you load this page on IE 6.0 there is a quirk at the lower right of the 2nd panel bar.
