100 Best Last Lines from Novels

Posted on the March 20th, 2008 under Books & Magz by Ryman

The American Book Review put out a list of 100 best last lines from novels. For book readers, most of these are already memorable. Most lines from this lists is from classic literatures. Here are a few examples:

8. ‘It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known.’ –Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities (1859)

69. She sat staring with her eyes shut, into his eyes, and felt as if she had finally got to the beginning of something she couldn’t begin, and she saw him moving farther and farther away, farther and farther into the darkness until he was the pin point of light. –Flannery O’Connor, Wise Blood (1952)

80. Everything had gone right with me since he had died, but how I wished there existed someone to whom I could say that I was sorry. –Graham Greene, The Quiet American (1956)

The Time Traveler’s Wife movie

Posted on the January 5th, 2008 under Books & Magz, TV Shows & Movies by Ryman

Back in August ‘07 I mentioned that this book is being made into a movie. Now it is expected to hit the theaters this year.

In the film, Chicago librarian Henry DeTamble (Eric Bana) has a genetic disorder that causes him to time travel when he is stressed. Though he disappears often for long periods of time, he tries to build a romantic relationship with artist Clare Abshire (Rachel McAdams). Ron Livingston plays Gomez, the librarian’s friend and a liberal attorney who works for nonprofit organizations.

Harry Potter VIII

Posted on the December 31st, 2007 under Books & Magz, News, People by Don

[from FoxNews.com]

Although the seventh Potter novel was published last January amid much fanfare as the final book in the beloved series, author J.K. Rowling has said in recent interviews that an eighth book is not out of the question.

According to a report Sunday in London’s Daily Mail, Rowling said she has “moments of weakness” when she feels drawn to revisit the character, and that her biggest fan — her teen daughter Jessica — has been urging her to write another Potter book.

Rowling, 42, said that if she should decide to continue the series, the next book would not focus on Harry Potter as the main character.

I knew it! The Harry Potter series is just to good to end. I’ll speculate, JK Rowling might explore the adventure of Harry’ children but then again it would be like Harry Potter all over again. Nah! I’ll wait for JK Rowling’s magic in story telling. She never fails to amaze me. I have to admit the fact that I’m a big fan of The Prisoner of Azkhaban. But when The Half-Blood Prince came out, I was awed thinking that JK could never surpass that but The Deathly Hallows proved me wrong. Just to tell you on how much I love the Harry Potter series, I can finish one book a day and then I read it again for three days.

World’s smallest newspaper

Posted on the November 13th, 2007 under Books & Magz by Ryman

The person in the image is holding the world’s smallest newspaper. First News, a children’s publication (London, England), has hit the Guinness Book of World Records for being the world’s smallest newspaper.

I remember the very small bible key chain sold at the local Blue Magic shop, where you can still read the text even without the use of magnifying glass. I wonder, how readable the text on this newspaper though.
