We know, we’re as shocked as you are! Sony has used the GamesCom stage in Cologne to announce the oh-so-tiny PS3 Slim. The good news is that the system sports both a slimmer form factor (33 percent smaller, 36 percent lighter and 34 percent less power use) a 120GB hard drive and the tidy price tag of $299. It boasts all the same features as the current PS3, which means still no backwards compatibility with your PS2 games.
Now there is no reason not to buy a PS3 this holiday!, unless your broke >_< ouch..

Fear not, says the comforting voice of long time series character designer Tetsuya Nomura, the long wait for the Fabula Nova Crystallis collection will be over soon enough. While pink is the new black, chicks dig white gadgets. The new Sony PlayStation 3 now comes in white, so you have a choice between ebony and ivory. There are a few quirks, however, with this new version, that’s why they call this low-end.
- 40 GB hard drive
- No backwards compatibility with PS2
- No memory card slots
- 2 USB ports
- NO support for SACD playback
- Still Wi-Fi supported
- Shipped with the new DualShock 3 controller
The 40GB PS3 will hit stores in Japan on November 11th (for the equivalent of $341 USD) and in all likelihood, they’ll be available in North America within a couple of weeks of that for around $399.
